Filipinos, in general, love eggs and they take it seriously. From breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the humble egg can be incorporated into many dishes.

Speaking of eggs, a new food trend has taken the Philippines by storm. There’s a high chance you’ve seen the Korean Egg Drop Sandwich on social media so heartily loved by many Filipinos today.

If you’re curious (and craving) this trending food, then keep on reading.

What is it?

According to Drive Me Hungry, the egg drop sandwich is a popular Korean egg sandwich made with fluffy scrambled eggs, ham or bacon, and cheese. It's sandwiched between thick slices of buttered toast and finished with a sweet egg drop sauce.

Why is it so famous?

A popular Korean sandwich shop that created this sensation, and is named after them, is Egg Drop (에그드랍). You can put a variety of fillings and toppings in the sandwich, including meats, fruits, and vegetables. This sandwich is perfect any time of the day, for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and even dinner because it is so packed. No wonder Filipinos have become obsessed with it too.

Popular Korean dramas, such as Hospital Playlist, have featured this sensational sandwich.

The craze started in 2021, but until today, many shops in the Philippines are starting to serve this dish for its simplicity and deliciousness. It has a Korean aesthetic appeal seen in K-dramas and movies.
