The iQiyi Hallyu season, which has a star-studded cast, has begun.
iQiyi, Asia's leader in streaming entertainment, is slated to premiere dozens of new major K-series and films in the fourth quarter. Jirisan, Bad and Crazy, IDOL: The Coup, Yumi's Cells, Let Me Be Your Night, The Man's Voice, Melancholia, and Royal Secret Inspector Joy are among the K-series that premiere in September. Midnight, and Shark: The Beginning are two Korean films also set to air. Girls Planet 999, a popular girl group reality show, will air its final episode in October, with nine new members set to debut. These K-shows are available on the iQiyi International app and iQ.com to viewers all over the world.
Jirisan, the long-awaited iQiyi original K-series, stars Gianna Jun and Ju Ji-hoon. It is created by director Lee Eung-bok (Descendants of The Sun, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) and writer Kim Eun-hee (Signal, Kingdom). Jun and Ju team up with Sung Dong-il, Oh Jung-se, and Go Min-si to safeguard Korea’s highest peak. Nature’s tests will be revealed on October 23rd.
Synopsis:
An experienced national
park ranger (played by Gianna Jun) and a rookie ranger (played by Ju Ji-hoon)
uncover secrets on Jirisan together.
Yumi's Cells is currently streaming.
This is a romantic comedy adapted from a popular
webtoon of the same title with over 3.2 billion views. After a breakup, the
romance ‘cells’ of ordinary office worker Yumi (played by Kim Go-eun) fall into
a coma, until she starts to meet attractive young males. Ahn Bo-hyun (Itaewon Class) plays the male lead. Park
Jin Young, from GOT7, plays Yumi’s second boyfriend, Ba-bi. Choi Min-ho, from
SHINee, makes a guest appearance as Yumi’s co-worker.
Another noona romance, "Melancholia," will come soon this November.
In Melancholía, Lim Soo-jung and Lee Do-hyeon are in a forbidden relationship on campus. Their 16-year age difference results in great societal pressure.
Ok Taec-yeon stars with emerging actress Kim Hye-yoon in a period drama for the first time in Inspector Joy. An accidental royal inspector and a wife seeking divorce are put together on a
mission.
A young and rich gourmet chef (played by Ok Taec-yeon) unintentionally becomes a secret royal inspector in the Joseon dynasty. On missions, he partners up with an unhappy woman seeking a divorce (Kim Hye-yoon). Royal Secret Inspector is expected to premiere this November.
A part-time convenience store worker (played by Song Ji-eun) suddenly hears the voices of cats after a lightning strike. When an attractive first officer (played by Choi Tae-joon) asks her to take care of his cat, a romance full of fantasy blossoms. The Man's Voice is set to broadcast in December 2021.
Let Me Be Your Night follows the story of the lead singer of a popular band (played by Lee Jun-young) who is trying to overcome his sleepwalking condition with the help of a physician (played by Jung In-sun). Cast members include current idols Lee Jun-young of U-KISS, Kim Jong-hyun of NUEST, Yoon Ji-sung of Wanna One, and Kim Dong-hyun from AB6IX.
Idol: The Coup is a young and passionate drama that tells about an idol group, and its leader Kim Je-na (played by Ahn Hee-yeon). They have been in the business for six years, but remain unknown. They need to find success to avoid termination. Airing this November.
Bad and Crazy is an action drama that shows a corrupt supervisor Su-Yeol (played by Lee Dong-
wook). He is only after promotions, but he has to eradicate corruption in the police force. He encounters a maniac, K (played by Wi Ha-jun), who dreams of becoming a hero.
In Shark: The Beginning, adapted from a webtoon series, Wi also plays a mixed martial arts champion. He inspires a school bullying victim, Kim Min-seok, to train physically and to confront internal fear.
In addition to Bad and Crazy, emerging actor Wi Ha-jun plays a serial killer in the new thriller, Midnight, and targets a hearing-impaired girl played by Jin Ki-joo. Helping the victim, she becomes the next target of the serial killer (played by Wi Ha-jun). Can she protect herself when she cannot even hear the killer approaching? The highjacking scene at the police station is inspired by a real incident in Korea in 2013.
