Are you interested to study in South Korea? This may be your chance! The Korean government just recently launched a scholarship program for graduate students who would like to study in the land of the oppas.
According to Ronel Laranjo, president of the GKS Philippines Alumni Association, the NIIED will shoulder the student's accommodation for their mandatory isolation, which is part of the country's COVID-19 protocols. Also, The COVID-19 testing when they arrive there is free. However, the candidates for the scholarship program will shoulder the COVID-19 testing here in the Philippines.
According to a statement from the program’s center, the GKS program planned to invite a total of 1,278 students around the world who wanted to study after-graduate degrees or pursue research in South Korea.
The Philippines has been allotted 28 slots under the University track program. Students can choose from 64 educational institutions accredited by the program. The applicant can only choose 1 university and all requirements should be shipped directly to the school.
Meanwhile, 13 slots are available under the Embassy track program. Here, the scholar can choose up to 3 universities for their program and all requirements may be submitted to the Korean Embassy in Manila.
The scholarship is also open to those who want to teach Korean, those who want to enhance their Korean language skills and those who want to pursue post-doctoral research. In addition, the students should study the Korean language for a year after acceptance as a candidate.
They must pass the Test of Proficiency in Korean Language (TOPIK) Level 3 to proceed with the program. Also, those who are interested to apply must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree where the Grade Point Average maintained are: 2.64 (4.0 scale), 2.50 (1.0 scale), C (letter scale), grade of 80% from the higher educational institution attended.
The deadline of application for those interested in the Embassy Track is between the 1st and 2nd week of March. This will depend on the deadline given by the Korean Embassy in Manila
On the other hand, the deadline for the applicants under the University Track will depend on the university of their choice.
