Korea seems to celebrate love in a quirky way. Here are 5 things you need to know about celebrating White Day in Korea.
One of the many informal but cute holidays in Korea is White Day.
1. White Day is the men's turn to give women their sweet treats!
Normally, Valentine's Day is a time for women to RECEIVE gifts from the important guys in their life. Meanwhile, in Korea, on February 14, women GIVE gifts to men and today, March 14, is the men's turn to reciprocate the sweet gesture.
2. White Day is also Confession Day!
Men who don't have girlfriends or special someone during Valentine's Day can give their gift to the woman that they like on White Day and confess their love. So girls, don't be surprised if someone gives you a sweet treat today. He might be secretly in love with you for a long time. ;)
3. Stores are filled up with chocolates and other sweet treats on White Day.
Although being creative and fancy is the trend, time might be a little problem. If you don't have time to look or prepare for a gift, visit a convenience store and get your girl a bouquet of lollipops, or three packs of chocolate. There are so many to choose from. It is common, yes, but it's always the thought that counts. ;)
4. White Day is also celebrated in Japan, Taiwan, China, and Vietnam.
FUN FACT: Japanese people are the first to celebrate White Day in 1978.
5. If there is White Day, there is also Black Day.
Not everyone succeeds in confessing their love, or getting something from the one they love. A month after White Day comes Black Day, a day for single people.
